Our American Elm Inventory
We have over 50 American Elm slabs in stock online in sizes that usually range:
- Up to 47" wide
- Up to 16' long
- Up to 2" thick
American Elm Origin:
American Elm trees are found in eastern North America from Newfoundland to Texas. American Elm is sometimes also called Soft Elm, Gray Elm or White Elm.
American Elm Workability:
Easy to work with, but may blunt hand tools. It nails, glues and finishes well.
American Elm Uses:Because American Elm is a hard, strong and bends well it is used for making baskets and hoops. It is also used in furniture making, flooring and veneer.
Color:The sapwood of American Elm is fairly wide and has a grayish white color compared to the heartwood. The heartwood of this species is a light grayish brown with a reddish tinge.
Janka Hardness:830 (medium)
Decay and Weather Resistance:Rated as non-durable and non-rot resistant. Living trees are susceptible to Dutch elm disease.
