Tulip Wood Origin:
Tulip, also known as Poplar, is found from Michigan to New England and south as far as Florida.
Tulip Wood Workability:
Tulip wood slabs are very easy to work with; it is a lightweight wood with low density. Sometimes it can leave fuzzy surfaces and edges so sanding to finer grits of sandpaper may be necessary. It nails/screws, glues, and stains well.
Tulip Uses:Live edge Tulipwood slabs are often used for table, bar, and counter tops. Tulip lumber has a variety of uses including furniture making, cabinetry, boxes or crates, interior joinery, and turnings or carvings.
Color:Live edge Tulip slabs have a creamy white sapwood and yellow-green heartwood. The heartwood turns to shades of brown with uv exposure. It can be found with mineral stained colors ranging from dark purple to red, green, and yellow (referred to as Rainbow Poplar). The grain is usually straight; it is rarely found with figure.
Janka Hardness:540 (soft). Hardness is similiar to Douglas-Fir.
Decay and Weather Resistance:Low to moderate decay resistance and is susceptible to insect attack..
