Entandrophragma utile

Origin: Sipo, also known as Utile, can be found in areas of Western and Central Africa.

Color: The heartwood of Sipo is a fairly uniform red-brown with a defined pale off-white sapwood. This species generally lacks dramatic figuring.

Janka Hardness: 1180 (hard) Similiar to African Mahogany.

Decay and Weather Resistance: It is rated as moderately durable to durable and can be used for both exterior and interior use. There are mixed ratings on insect resistance.

Workability: Workability is similiar to African Mahogany. It is very easy to dry and work with and turns, glues, and finishes well.

Uses: Sipo is gaining popularity as the best Genuine Mahogany substitute. It is used in the same applications as Genuine Mahogany such as fine furniture, boat building, flooring, and cabinetry.
